The ITIL concept is centered around IT services as opposed to IT systems. In order to make ITIL more accessible (and affordable) to those wishing to explore it, one of the aims of ITIL v2 was to consolidate the publications into logical 'sets' that grouped related process guidelines into the different aspects of IT management, applications and services.
In the scenario where a disaster has occurred, not only is the patient registration application needed but additionally any supporting IT infrastructure and services such as active directory, networks, telecommunications, technical support, and the service desk. ITSM is related to the field of Management Information Systems (MIS) in scope. The Service Manager Level certification is the highest achievable IT Service Management certificate.
